Arizona Opera
About Arizona Opera:
Arizona Opera is one of the few opera companies that operates out of two cities, both Phoenix and Tucson. The Arizona Opera company started out in 1971 as the Tucson Opera Company. It was not long however before the company expanded its performances to include the city of Phoenix, and also from three to five productions per year. Also included in its seasonal offerings of classic and new opera are several recital performances. Each opera is performed five times, three times in Phoenix at the Phoenix Symphony Hall and twice in Tucson at the Tucson Convention Center Music Hall.
The performers are a combination of local and international talent. The orchestra combines talented musicians from three Arizona cities including Phoenix, Tucson and Flagstaff. The chorus is made up of community members and university students, who all have a passion for opera. Principal singers are drawn from both new talent and past favorites.
Arizona Opera is also active doing community outreach and is active bringing opera to students and schools with its OperaTunity Tours, and special student nights and programs. That's not all. There's also a once a month free lunch recital, pre-performance lectures and post-performance talk backs. Their lecture series helps to bring each opera to life with a detailed look at and information about each production.
