This theatre can be found on the campus at the Arizona State University. It has expanded its programming over the years to bring the best in Broadway shows as well as other wonderful entertainers. The design for the theatre itself was started by Frank Lloyd Wright and brought to completion by William Wesley Peters. The building took a long 24 months to complete, but the doors finally opened in 1964. The performance hall seats an amazing 3,000 people and has seats on three levels. The design of the stage includes a collapsible orchestra shell and the theatre boasts overall great acoustics.
ASU Gammage has become known for its wonderful Broadway productions including all the big ones like The Lion King and The Phantom of the Opera. It also has commissioned many new works from artists like Philip Glass and Trisha Brown. The stage has also been host to great performers like Tony Bennet, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Billy Crystal as well as classical greats such as Yo Yo Ma and Vladimir Horowitz.
