THEATER IN PHOENIX

Great Arizona Puppet Theatre

Puppetry at the Great Arizona Puppet Theatre

About the Great Arizona Puppet Theater:

This wonderful puppet theater is devoted to advancing the art of puppetry, and is particularly keen on celebrating Arizona and its culture. The Theater is housed in a wonderful old Church that was built in 1929 and was at one time slated for demolition. As with so many beautiful old buildings, what is now the Great Arizona Puppet Theater we saved and lovingly restored in its original Spanish Colonial style. The site now houses all the necessary elements for a fun time with puppets. These include things like a birthday party room and a puppet library as well as a gift shop and exhibit area..

This award winning theater is also a member of the Puppeteers of America. They started in 1983 as a touring company and have brought plenty of joy to many children and adults alike. You can see shows five days a week from Wednesday through Sunday. Most of the performances for children are held in either the morning or afternoon. There are also performances for adults only called the "Puppet Slam" that are on Friday and Saturday nights. Prices are reasonable and children under 2 are free with the purchase of another child ticket. They also offer several membership levels that give you discounts on tickets and other amenities, in case your kids just can't enough of the puppets.

Become a member, a volunteer or join the newsletter email list. You can also plan a birthday party or schedule a tour. There are more than 60 shows in the repertoire and study guides are available for many of the shows. There is a snack bar and gift shop also, with puppets and books available for purchase.
